We are Steph and Angie - sisters who love to scrapbook. We don't know design, we aren't color experts and we usually only get to scrapbook a few times a year. But, we love our families and scrapbooking our memories with them so here we are!

We'll try not to bog you down with long supply lists and explanations (half the time we can't remember what we used or it's such old stuff that you'd never find it anywhere anyway!)

Please feel free to "scrap-lift" any of our ideas that strike your fancy, and if you are a scrapbooker with your own blog, please link back to us!

NYE 2013 - Alarik

The last two years on New Year's Eve we have just stayed home and thrown our own little shindig with the kiddos.  This year Bekah and Scott helped me plan the party menu and we came up with all dippable foods.  It was quite the hit with everyone!  The kids also loved the party drinks I let them mix up with cranberry juice, orange juice and 7up.

Alarik's page about our NYE festivities uses Scribble Dots paper by Recollections and ProvoCraft Pathways Alphabitties stickers, plus some ribbon accents that I stapled onto one of my photo mats.

Gavin's 12th Birthday

I think one of my favorite techniques for pictures is tearing the edges of the pictures themselves.  This really makes the photos stand out especially when matted on a dark paper. I did this on two of the pictures on the left hand page of this spread.

Materials:
journal cards and balloons and the "party"- Happy Day Flash Cards by Simple Stories
star paper which I cut into strips for an accent on the page by Jillibean Soup
punch out letters- DCWV

Scott's Summer 2013

If Bekah and Alarik both have an "and the livin's easy" page, then Scott must have one too.  After all, when you come up with a good title/theme, you might as well maximize.  Besides, each of my kids has their own separate albums so it's ok to duplicate now and then.

All of the papers and stickers on this 2-page spread are from The Great Outdoors collection by Echo Park Paper Company.
As I did with Bekah and Alarik's pages, I grouped small photos by event to tell the story of Scott's summer.

Kallinen 4th of July 2013

I always do a separate page just for the 4th from our camping trips because we have so much fun dressing up and decorating everything in red, white and blue.  We even parade around the campground and give out treats to our fellow campers!

Materials:
all papers were from the Proud to Serve stack by The Paper Studio
alpha stickers by Sticko
decorative stickers by Reminisce

Bekah: 3rd Grade

papers from the DCWV Fall & Halloween Stack.
worm and leaf stickers are by Sticko/EK Success (Did you ever notice how there are at least three different brand names on most scrapbooking products?  I wonder why?)

The orange paper had some cobwebs, spiders and other "Halloweeny" stuff in the corners so I ripped two pieces of the acorn print paper large enough to cover it.  That left a pretty obvious placement for my three photos which I matted on ripped brown cardstock.

Kallinen Camping 2013

Even though I sometimes think that all my camping pages start to look alike I still love to do them because I love to camp!  Pretty much the pictures are the same every year- the kids just get bigger as they do the same typical camping activities:)

Material:
plaid background paper- Stack 8 by DCWV
bark alpha stickers- Recollections
stickers on the left hand page- Campfire collection by October Afternoon
"critter" cutout- Camp-A-Lot by Bo Bunny

I added some interest to my rather unoriginal title by saying it three times.  More interesting....I'm not sure but it helps balance out the page!  I no longer had the brand for the rock or water letters.

Count Cutie

This was yet another page made from the scrap bin.  The Halloween print paper is from the Target Dollar spot.  Letter stickers are by Recollections.

Alarik hated this costume at first.  But once he put it on on Halloween, he changed his tune.  And that was even before he realized you get candy!  My journaling tells how he wanted to put it on again weeks after Halloween and "get candy".  :)

Duluth Junk Hunt

This is the first page ever that I have done for just me- meaning I am on it and my kids are not!  My Mom, sister and I visited the Duluth Junk Hunt for the first time last November and it was a great time and a super fun girl's day!  I used a strip of chalkboard tape and placed it on the bottom of one of the photos and will journal on it. I stole all the "junky" accents on the page from my mom and she didn't have the brands.

Materials:
brown letters- Crate Paper Inc
burlap paper- Recollections
weathered board paper- Paper Pizazz
chalkboard tape- Fancy Pants Design
I don't know the brand on the "Duluth" letters

Alarik Football

I nabbed this Paper Studio brand football field paper from Steph's stash.  I ripped it and layered it over plain brown cardstock for my background.  The title and date are Genuine Boy letters by Reminsce.

In return for the paper, Steph scrap-lifted my layout which you'll see posted later.  I call that even.

Girly Summer Page

I used the same "And the Livin's Easy" title for Bekah's summer 2013 page as I did on Alairk's page here, but Bekah's page is all pink and orange and girly!  Everything for this page is from the Beach Babe collection by Fancy Pants Design and includes:
printed transparency, "Jumping Fish" paper, "Card" paper, chipboard alphas, chipboard banners and journal embellishments

These supplies are from a set I ordered on peachycheap.com and between Steph and I, we've gotten a lot of use out of them!  Check out all the pages we've used things from this set on:
Alarik's Summer 2013 page, as noted above
Caden's Ocean page
Gavin's Ocean page (not on blog because it's nearly identical to Caden's
Jade's Ocean page
Waterpark pages and even
a Preschool page (the stars)
I'd say I got my money's worth for that collection!

Scott Monster

Scott's teacher texted this picture of Scott and his three best buddies to me one day and I just had to scrap it.  I bought this All over Monsters paper by Recollections forever ago because it was too adorable to pass up and this was the perfect page for it.  The title is created from Architexture rub-ons by Sticko.  I had the little monster sticker that adorns my journaling block leftover from a pack of valentines we used years ago.
Now that I look at this layout again, several days after making it, I can see that I should have placed my journaling block under the photo as opposed to the opposite side.   Well, I just tried to go and peel it up and move it and that's not happening without marking up the cute monster paper so that settles that.  It stays like it is.  I've never been a perfectionist when it comes to scrapbooking.  If the memories are preserved, I'm happy with it.  (Though my sister would probably gladly report how crazy I am about making sure my layouts are in chronological order in my books. That's a different story!)

Winter Pages

It's fitting to post some winter pages since we're still in the midst of the polar vortex that has defined this winter in MN.

Steph and I will have a large assortment of fresh pages to post as we  just returned from a weekend of scrapping!  I got tons of pages done and we managed to mix in a little eating out, a sauna and lots of visiting as well.

There's not much of a supply list to go over for this page.  I've got cardstock, pictures, one sheet of snowflake print paper from a DCWV Christmas stack and some metal stencil letters that I've had for so long I can't remember where I got them (but they are most likely from JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts.

I used a snowflake punch in the dead space of some of my photos and then used the punched flakes to offset the punch-out on the different colored photos.

As a side note, I hate, hate, hate that my scanner cuts off a quarter inch on two sides of each layout when I scan them.  Drives me crazy since it looks like everything is off-center on here, but I haven't figured out a way around it.  I'm not good at photographing my layouts.  Any tips/solutions that anyone knows of?
